Best places for a night out in Newcastle

01. The Diamond Strip

Home to Geordie Shore’s biggest nights out
Newcastle’s SW1 – ideal for celeb and VIP spotting

Trendy, classy and exclusive (so make sure you scrub up…)The Diamond Strip is like the W1 of London – trendy, suave and expensive. With ‘diamond’ denoting its exclusivity; these upmarket and cool bars and clubs attract Newcastle’s VIPs – celebrities, the Geordie Shore crew, footballers and their adoring female fans. It truly is the place to be and be seen. These bars attract a mature crowd, and while they’re not exclusively student-free, you wouldn’t get into any of these bars with a pair of Converse trainers and ironic spectacles.

We’d highly recommend snapping up our Newcastle Nightlife Wristbands for your group because it’ll get you into some great bars on The Diamond Strip, as well as The Bigg Market.

Just a minutes’ walk from Central Station, the main Diamond Strip is set on Collingwood Street and extends to a couple of bars on Mosley Street. The bars are united by their bohemian-luxe interiors and sultry, seductive atmospheres – exposed brickwork, lavish décor and plush ornate sofas in cosy little corners. ChachiBuchi is a highlight – with chalet style-deco and an exotic drinks menu. Verano is like ChachiBuchi’s more exotic sister – with summer vibes and filled with tequila. Revolution is a vodka bar set in a luxurious former bank with 30ft ceilings and marble pillars, and Bohemia is a boutique lounge with a ‘secret garden’, where you can book booths or beds (depending on where the night takes you). You’ve also got Bijoux, Tup Tup Palace and Howlers to stumble into. If The Diamond Strip sounds like your kind of night out, whack on your muscle-fit designer tees and false tan, and party hard with the Geordies on our Diamond Strip bar crawl.

02. Quayside

he Quayside Newcastle, once an industrial powerhouse filled with depots and loading docks, is now a revitalised area that leads the way on the Newcastle nightlife scene. As you might expect, it fringes the banks of the River Tyne, just west of the Swing Bridge – it even spills over into Gateshead.

It seems like there’s a new and exciting venue or eatery opening every year, but most revellers will begin the night in one of the area’s award-winning gastropubs. They serve creative twists on British classics and have lovely beer terraces for when the sun’s out. Later on, it’s easy to mosey north to the Diamond Strip if you want to keep things pumping.

0.3 Dean street

The redbrick buildings of Dean Street Newcastle might have been standing for centuries, but the nightlife scene of this central Newcastle strip is very much contemporary. The road connects Grey Street with Newcastle Castle a little to the south, so it’s easy to find – it’s a fast 5-minute walk from Central Station.

Lovers of good beer won’t be disappointed by the offering of microbreweries around Dean Street Newcastle. They’ll start the night with milk stouts and peppery IPAs and more creative fruit concoctions than you can shake a schooner at. Pubs and wine bars also abound, while diners can head south to enjoy Indian curries and Thai stir-fries in the Side restaurant quarter.
